NOV. 4, 2008– The United States made history on Tuesday, Nov.4 2008 when the American people overwhelmingly elected Barack Obama to the office of President of the United States. Mr. Obama is the first African-American ever elected to the office. Barack Obama was an unlikely candidate for the Presidency. He was born of a Caucasian-American mother and a Kenyan, non-practicing Muslim, father. Mr. Obama was raised, primarily, in Hawaii by his maternal grandparents. He did, however, spend a couple of years in Indonesia with his mother and her new Indonesian, Muslim husband.
